Between the members that signed the agreement were:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.umh.es\/contenido\/pdi\/:persona_5535\/datos_en.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Manuel Jord\u00e1n Vidal<\/a>, Vice-rector of research and innovation of the University Miguel Hern\u00e1ndez,<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=CCI3bVoM-Z0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joan Heras Navarro<\/a>, Director of Market access of the company <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boehringer-ingelheim.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Boehringer Ingelheim<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is a formative and research chair joint of <strong> Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). <\/strong> On national and regional level.<!--more--><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-16067\" title=\"Some of the associated pathologies and derived from COPD are discussed in the chair of the UMH\" src=\"https:\/\/departamentomedicinaclinica.umh.es\/files\/2017\/12\/Pulmones-EPOC.jpg\" alt=\"The UMH Chair on COPD lungs hurts\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/departamentomedicinaclinica.umh.es\/files\/2017\/12\/Pulmones-EPOC.jpg 960w, https:\/\/departamentomedicinaclinica.umh.es\/files\/2017\/12\/Pulmones-EPOC-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/departamentomedicinaclinica.umh.es\/files\/2017\/12\/Pulmones-EPOC-768x511.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>\u00bfWhat is the UMH Chair on COPD about?<\/h2>\n<p>The UMH Chair on COPD is led by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.umh.es\/contenido\/Investigacion\/:persona_33222\/datos_en.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Juan Manuel Arriero Mar\u00edn<\/a>, professor of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.departamentomedicinaclinica.edu.umh.es\/en\/\">Department of Clinical Medicinea of the UMH<\/a>. The purpose of the studies is to focus on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> to promote disease awareness, <\/li>\n<li> to face solidly the underdiagnosis between Primary Care doctors and specialists.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The collaboration agreement between the two entities, UMH and Boehringer Ingelheim, will be 3 years and the annual contribution amounts to 10,000 euros.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7203\" title=\"Juan Manuel Arriero professor, Department of Clinical Medicine of the UMH participates in the UMH Chair on COPD\" src=\"https:\/\/departamentomedicinaclinica.umh.es\/files\/2014\/11\/JuanManuelArriero1.jpg\" alt=\"Juan Manuel Arriero Mar\u00edn doctor UMH Chair UMH on COPD\" width=\"500\" height=\"443\" srcset=\"https:\/\/departamentomedicinaclinica.umh.es\/files\/2014\/11\/JuanManuelArriero1.jpg 1062w, https:\/\/departamentomedicinaclinica.umh.es\/files\/2014\/11\/JuanManuelArriero1-300x266.jpg 300w, https:\/\/departamentomedicinaclinica.umh.es\/files\/2014\/11\/JuanManuelArriero1-1024x906.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/departamentomedicinaclinica.umh.es\/files\/2014\/11\/JuanManuelArriero1-768x680.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><br \/>\nThe chair of sponsorship will allow to know chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.com\/mundo\/noticias-41997332\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">COPD<\/a>) through the organization of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>training activities, research, development, conferences, etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>According to Arriero Martin, director of the Chair and Professor of Clinical Medicine of the UMH: &#8220;we are planning to design a research work related to the quality of life of patients with COPD and morbidity and mortality. This study will take place through national statistical records, as well as actions aimed both at the field of Primary Health Care as a specialty, where all patients who are underdiagnosed be detected better&#8221;.<br \/>\nIn the words of professor Arriero, &#8220;there is underdiagnosis in COPD around the 50, 60, or 70%, which is a very high score. However, it is very easy to diagnose with a spirometry disease. This important test to detect it is possible at all levels of health care. Both Primary Care (AP) in specialized medicine&#8221;.<br \/>\nFurthermore, Arriero explained about COPD: &#8220;it is very common disease with high prevalence and significant morbidity and mortality. An increase is expected in the coming years for several reasons. On the one hand, in developed countries because life expectancy will be high. There will be more patients with COPD, that mortality due to disease. &#8220;And on the other hand, in developing countries because smoking is increasing significantly&#8221;.<\/p>\n<h2>Who integrates the UMH chair about COPD?<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-14687\" title=\"Domingo Orozco Beltr\u00e1n is associate professor in the Department of Clinical Medicine of the UMH and University Hospital Sant Joan d\u2019Alacant\" src=\"https:\/\/departamentomedicinaclinica.umh.es\/files\/2016\/12\/Domingo-Orozco-master-atencion-primaria.jpg\" alt=\"Domingo Orozco acc\u00e9sit Family Medicine\" width=\"500\" height=\"282\" srcset=\"https:\/\/departamentomedicinaclinica.umh.es\/files\/2016\/12\/Domingo-Orozco-master-atencion-primaria.jpg 614w, https:\/\/departamentomedicinaclinica.umh.es\/files\/2016\/12\/Domingo-Orozco-master-atencion-primaria-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><br \/>\nThe Advisory Council of the UMH Chair on COPD is composed by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Manuel Jord\u00e1n Vidal, Vice-Rector for research and innovation,<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.umh.es\/contenido\/Estudiantes\/:persona_5304\/datos_en.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Domingo Orozco Beltr\u00e1n<\/a>, professor of the Department of Clinical Medicine, as Secretary of the Department<\/li>\n<li>Silvia Armengol Bertol\u00edn, from\u00a0the company Boehringer Ingelheim Spain<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uchceu.es\/directorio\/juan-soler2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Juan J. Soler Catalu\u00f1a<\/a>, responsible for the Plan of COPD in the Valencian Community. Head of Section of Pneumology of the University Hospital of Sant Joan d&#8217;Alacant, and<\/li>\n<li>Eusebi Chiner Vives,\u00a0coordinator of the Spanish Society of Respiratory Pathology SEPAR_PACIENTES (SEPAR)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At the signing ceremony of the agreement also was attended by Jos\u00e9 Javier algae Mart\u00ednez, responsible for Institutional Relations at Boehringer Ingelheim,<\/p>\n<h2>What do we know today about COPD?<\/h2>\n<p>Currently, reserch in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is on the rise. &#8220;While it has been a disease that, in other times, and probably by the character of irreversibility associated, has perhaps not had investigated enough&#8221;, states Arriero. He also adds, that recent work on COPD &#8220;go towards a change in the management of the disease. Among its main research interests focus on the anticholinergic bronchodilators.
