Open Doors Day for future residents at General University Hospital of Elche

The General University Hospital of Elche hosted, for the 7th consecutive year, the Open Doors Day for future resident doctors who have to choose a training centre after passing the MIR exams.
As every year, hundreds of residents choose in one of the 26 specialties of the General University Hospital of Elche in Spain. The choice of the hospital where they will be performed, once the MIR students has past, is one of the most important moments in the professional career of any doctor. Therefore, these open days are essential for future residents.
Development of the Conference of the Open Doors Day
This year, the conference was attended by Professor Jaime Merino , Professor of Medicine, Academic of the Royal Academy of Medicine of the Valencian Community and external teaching collaborator of the Department of Clinical Medicine of the Miguel Hernández University of Elche, and with the Professor doctor Félix Gutiérrez , Director of the Department of Clinical Medicine UMH.
The event became a success with the attendance of more than 150 future residents who wanted to better understand the hospital facilities, specialties, teaching offer, as well as the health department.
Attendees came from universities in Elche, Murcia, Valencia, Castellón and Tarragona, in Spain.
The VII Day began with the Managing Director of the Department of the General University Hospital of Elche, Doctor Carlos Gosálbez , the Medical Head Department, Doctor Jaume Sastre , the Director of Nursing, Doctor Justo González and the Head of Studies of the Department, Doctor Félix Gutiérrez.
The Professor Jaime Merino Sánchez gave the conference “The values of health professionalism”. After that, different forums were opened with the main objective of informing doctor residents about the programs of the different specialties, the objectives of each one of them and career opportunities, among other issues of interest to all students.
Forums of the VII Open Doors Day General University Hospital of Elche, Spain
The first forum was aimed at the specialties of General Surgery, Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Traumatology, Urology and Anesthesiology. The second shift was for the specialties of Internal Medicine, Intensive Medicine, Digestive, Neurology and Cardiology.
In the third forum, the specialties of Medical Oncology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Clinical Psychology, Family and Community Medicine / EIR were discussed.
The last forum turned around the specialties of Radiodiagnosis, Clinical Analysis, Hospital Pharmacy, Pathological Anatomy, Microbiology and Preventive Medicine.
Finally, those attending the VII open day for future residents at the General University Hospital of Elche visited the Teaching Units. And also, the Teaching and Research Areas of the Hospital, as well as the services of the different specialties.
Undoubtedly, this conference organized by the General University Hospital of Elche, was essential to help future residents. Mainly to clarify, since it will be one of the first decisions they have to make on their way and professional development.
